From first request for help to lasting recovery
Personal guidance before, during, and after admission abroad
Admission to an addiction clinic abroad is often a major decision — not only for the person seeking help, but also for partners, parents, children, and other loved ones. Many questions arise. Which clinic is the best fit? How quickly can someone be admitted? Is the treatment reimbursed? How does the journey work? And what happens after returning to the Netherlands?
Ikigai Counseling guides the entire process — from the first phone call to aftercare following return. We believe that successful treatment doesn't start at admission, but much earlier. And that recovery doesn't stop on the day of discharge from the clinic.
Before admission
Every situation is unique. That's why we always start with a personal, confidential conversation in which we look together at the request for help, the severity of the problem, and treatment preferences.
During this phase, we provide guidance with, among other things:
- an extensive intake and recovery analysis;
- discussing treatment options;
- choosing a suitable clinic;
- coordination with the treating clinic;
- support with referrals and medical information;
- : information about funding and possible options through health insurance;
- practical preparation for admission;
- support for partners, family, and loved ones;
- creating a personal recovery and preparation plan.
If desired, we can also support an intervention or motivational conversations when someone is still hesitant about treatment.
During admission
We remain involved during treatment as well. Recovery is a process in which connection remains important.
Depending on the client's wishes and the agreements with the clinic, we offer, among other things:
- regular contact with the client;
- support for partner and family;
- coordination with treatment providers when desired;
- support with questions or practical matters from the Netherlands;
- preparation for the return home;
- drawing up an aftercare and relapse prevention plan.
This creates a strong connection between the treatment abroad and the life that is rebuilt after admission.
After admission
The first months after returning are often decisive for lasting recovery. That's why our support doesn't stop when someone leaves the clinic.
We can offer support through:
- individual recovery conversations;
- relapse prevention;
- recovery-oriented coaching;
- guidance with structure, daily routine, and lifestyle;
- support towards work, education, or volunteer work;
- support in restoring relationships and social networks;
- connection with self-help groups and recovery initiatives;
- coordination with care providers and other involved organizations.
Our goal is to guide the transition from the protected treatment environment to everyday life as carefully as possible.
